Comparing the Ford Edge to the Competition

Here in the Alliance and Salem, OH area, where drivers appreciate the legendary quality and reliability of American-made vehicles, Ford is a top choice. At Donnell Ford of Salem, we're proud to be your local home for these beloved vehicles. From pickup trucks to SUVs, we've got the vehicles Ohio drivers want, including the new Ford Edge SUV.

The Ford Edge isn't one of those gigantic, behemoth SUVs. Nor is it a cramped, subcompact crossover. It fills the niche between these two popular styles, hitting a sweet spot for many drivers in the Columbiana and Leetonia area who are looking for something that seats five people comfortably, offers up tons of cargo space, and has the elevated ground clearance and commanding view of the road of an SUV.

The Ford Edge models we carry here at Donnell Ford of Salem are available in a variety of great trim options, and with your choice of powerful, fun-to-drive engines. Best of all though, the Edge SUV is a Ford, which means it comes with all the prowess and reliability drivers have come to expect from the legendary carmaker.

The Ford Edge vs. the Chevy Equinox

Chevrolet is another American carmaker drivers turn to when looking for SUVs of all sizes. Their Equinox SUV, which is in the same class as the Ford Edge, also seats five and has flexible cargo storage. But that's pretty much where the similarities end. If you're curious about the ways that these two models compare, and how the Ford Edge comes out ahead in comparison, read on. We've done our homework for you, to make your decision-making process a little easier.

  • Power and Performance. The Ford Edge comes equipped with a base engine that leaves the Chevy Equinox standard equipment in the dust. In fact, while both SUVs have three possible powertrains, the Edge offers more get-up-and go performance across the board. The Ford Edge powertrains range from a 245-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder, to a 280-horsepower V6, to a 315-horsepower V6. But, the Chevy Equinox starts with just a 170-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder, and only goes up to a 252-horsepower four-cylinder. There's no V6 available anywhere in the Equinox lineup, although the Chevy does have an available diesel engine that's rated for 137 horsepower.
  • Passenger and Cargo Space. From legroom, to head room, to carrying cargo, the Ford Edge outshines the Chevy Equinox when it comes to space. The Ford Edge cargo hold accommodates ten more cubic feet than the Equinox, and the Ford has more room for you, and your passengers, in both the front and backseats.
  • Trim Options. While the Chevy Equinox and the Ford Edge both come in four trim level options, actually purchasing the entry-level model for the Chevy proves to be a near-impossible task for most drivers. That's because the Equinox base trim, L, is a custom made-to-order model, so you won't find it in stock at most dealerships. But, if you prefer an entry-level, budget-friendly vehicle, the Ford Edge base trim, SE, is not made-to-order and is easier to find for buyers.
