Comparing the Ford Escape to the Compact Crossover Competition

At Donnell Ford of Salem, we obviously think very highly of our stellar Ford models. From pickup trucks, to sportscars, to hatchbacks, Ford makes an incredible lineup of the vehicles East Palestine and Beloit drivers want, and we carry them on our Salem, OH new vehicle lot.

When it comes to designing and engineering the most popular vehicles on the road, SUVs and crossovers, no one beats Ford. Their collection of world-class SUVs is remarkable and varied, with something to please every type of American driver.

One of our favorite Ford SUVs is the Ford Escape. This crossover offers the elevated ground clearance, driver's command view of the road, and flexible cargo hold we want in an SUV, but in an easy-to-park, compact size. It's stylish, roomy, and comes equipped with the latest in tech and safety features.

As great as the Ford Escape is, we know it's probably not the only SUV in its class that's vying for your attention. If you're considering whether the Escape, or one of its competitors, is the better choice for you, we can help. We've done in-depth research of the Escape and similar models, to help make your decision-making process easier.

The Ford Escape vs. the Toyota RAV4

While on the surface these two small, five-passenger SUVs appear to have a lot in common, they are actually dissimilar in a lot of key ways. In fact, the Ford-built Escape SUV comes out ahead of the Toyota crossover in a number of important areas. Read on to see all the ways in which the Ford Escape dominates the competition:

  • Warranty. As a Ford, we don't expect anything to go wrong with your new Escape. But, life happens and car parts break. If you hit a pothole and get a flat tire, or you accidentally drain your battery, isn't it nice to know that Ford will have your back longer than Toyota? In fact, Ford offers roadside assistance to all Escape buyers for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Toyota, on the other hand, only gives RAV4 drivers backup for two years.
  • Engine options and power. The Toyota RAV4 gives all drivers the same, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 176 horsepower, regardless of trim level. But, the Ford Escape allows you to choose from not one, not two, but three possible powertrains, depending on the trim level you go for. Options range from a 168-horsepower four-cylinder, to a 179-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder, to a fun and responsive, 245-horsepower four-cylinder.
  • Passenger space. The Ford Escape is also roomier inside the vehicle. Compared to the Toyota RAV4, the Ford Escape gives you more headroom and more legroom, in both the front and the backseats.
  • Tech and safety features. Every Ford Escape, regardless of trim level choice, gives Columbiana and Lisbon, OH drivers standard smartphone integration and standard MyKey parental controls for teen drivers. The Toyota RAV4, on the other hand, doesn't offer these features across all trim levels, if they even offer them at all.
